WE ARE INVOLVED
IN PROJECTS.

On these topics, the ISLab group has been involved in several EU and national projects, among which the recent EU H2020 VAST, EU ERC H2020 Tacitroots, EU ERC H2020 AN-ICON, and Next Generation UPP funded by the Italian Ministry of Justice to improve the performance of the Italian Court Offices.

VAST

values across space & time

The VAST project (EU H2020 N. 101004949, 2020-2023) involves an international team of researchers and it aims to discover and rediscover the foundational values of Europe and European Union, such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, and tolerance. The history of these values is analyzed within VAST, throughout a variety of sources in space and time, ranging from ancient greek tragedies to modern drama, from folktale narratives, and from philosophic work of the Seventeenth Century up to contemporary museum researches. In the VAST project, methodologies and digital tools are integrated in a seamless platform with the contribution of both humanists and computer scientists. The ultimate goal is to support teachers and educational institutions to increase the citizen's awareness about the identity roots of the European Union. This is done in VAST by directly involving the actors that are responsible of such a communication strategy, such as for example artists, theatre directors and players, exhibition curators, and educators in general.

NGUPP

Next generation UPP

The Next Generation UPP project is a PON GOV project funded by the Italian Ministry of Justice with the aim of improving the performance of judicial offices in northwestern Italy. The project proposes to experiment with new collaborative schemes between universities and judicial offices in order to offer court staff cross-cutting skills to ensure the effective functioning of a modern judicial system and to provide support for the process of digitization and technological innovation. The project involves numerous universities and judicial offices in the north-west and consists of activities to survey and enhance judicial offices in terms of both management processes and the creation and adoption of targeted software tools.

MUSA

multilayered urban sustainability action

The MUSA project (ECS 000037) involves a broad consortium of universities, research institutions, public entities, and major corporations, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the European Union's NextGenerationEU recovery plan. The project aims to establish an "Innovation Ecosystem" to foster and develop multilayered urban sustainability. The challenges of urban transformation are addressed within MUSA through a multidisciplinary approach, structured into six key areas: Urban Regeneration and Big Data, Technology for Sustainable Industry, Sustainable Finance, Design for Sustainable Urban Living, and Societal Impact of Sustainable Solutions. In the MUSA project, methodologies and digital innovations are integrated through the collaboration of public and private actors. The ultimate goal is to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of the urban ecosystem, supporting the creation of new businesses and supply chains to transform the Milan and Lombardy areas into a leading example of sustainable development. This is done in MUSA by directly involving stakeholders from academia, industry, and government to drive research, innovation, and positive societal impact. The ISLab group has been involved in MUSA in Spokes 3 and 5 specifically, and provided support in reviewing Semantic Web strategies for Life Cycle Assessments in the Fashion industry.

TACITROOTS

The Accademia del Cimento in Florence

TACITROOTS is an EU funded project (H2020 ERC Consolidator grant N. 818098, 2019–2024) led by the historian of science, Giulia Giannini. The project aims to provide a new understanding of the origins of the European scientific enterprise, by analysing and contextualising for the very first time the entire corpus of published and unpublished sources concerning the earliest modern scientific academy: the Florentine Accademia del Cimento. The ISLab group cooperates with the Tacitroots project on a joined research action about 'Data-Science Models and Techniques for the Digital Humanities and the History of Science'.

FAITH

Fighting Against Injustice through Humanities

FAITH is a project of the University of Milan about the history of violence. The purpose of FAITH is to tell the story of the people who suffered or perpetrated violence over the centuries. The project aims to collect the traces of people from very different sources, including archaeological sites, tombs, written documents, environmental data, human and animal skeletons, images and artistic works. FAITH also wants to propose a working and data processing methodology to: overcome the methodological and practical differences of different disciplines; integrate heterogeneous data; combine observation and interpretation in a single data model.
